You might say that summer is also a good time to get some new furniture for your garden patio. With winter on its way out, your current things start to look in disrepair and neglected. Has rotting set in your wooden furniture and you have started to see some rust spots already? If the answer is in the affirmative, then you ought to seriously consider acquiring some new furniture to give your patio a brand new look.

Garden patio furniture is available in a variety of size, material, design and styles and depending on where you look for them, you could strike some good bargains too. Have a look at buying your garden furniture from Argos or even Ikea’s gardening range.

Keep the wet seasons in mind when you are buying. Durability, ability to survive heat and moisture with no or minimum maintenance should be your selection criteria.

You can safeguard your patio furniture from getting corroded or rusted. This can happen only when they are made from aluminum and stainless steel. These are available in a host of sizes and shapes, from sophisticated bar high-chairs to uncomplicated stools. When the prime factor in selection is how hard-wearing they are, then the perfect choice would be wrought-iron furniture. These not only bring about a Victorian aura but with their designs can also make your garden patio look plush and nice.

If you want to blend your furniture perfectly with nature, then you better go for wooden ones instead. Because the color of the wood is earthy, it fits best with a landscaped garden patio and become one with the natural flora and fauna. However, a lot of sweat and labor would go behind finding this material for your garden furniture. Cedar Garden Furniture

By admin On July 15, 2008 No Comments

A great style of wood for the outdoors, cedar is a hardwood native to North America which is used to make great cedar garden furniture. Clear grade western red cedars are commonly used to produce outdoor furniture. One concern everyone has is the outdoor weather how will it affect the furniture that sits in sunshine and rain. Frequently, other weather conditions, such as the snow, sleet, and hail conditions found in the northern part of the United States, are a consideration in buying garden furniture.

Western red cedar helps combat these issues because it contains oil that acts as a natural preservative which helps the wood resist rot. The first major piece of furniture to come out of this type of wood was the Adirondack Chair and it was a definite commercial success among customers. After the government noticed the ability of these chairs to withstand the elements, they decided to begin using the cedar wood in benches they placed in parks. The depression era brought forth the creation of many of these benches by people who worked on the WPA. Originated by Franklin Roosevelt, the WPA was a branch of the government that helped to give people jobs during the Great Depression. The work program that was designed to help ease the unemployment in the nation resulted in many cedar trees being cut down and made into furniture - one such popular design was the park benches used by the federal government.

During the time period, cedar chests grew heavily in popularity as well, and many preferred the cedar chests because they kept mold and mildew from destroying their precious items stored in the chests. Sailors often declared that the cedar chest was their friend on long trips. Also during this time period, funeral directors began using cedar and pine to build coffins. Being able to prevent diseases from spreading was one perceived benefit by many doctors in England. Throughout the centuries, cedar has been diverse enough to be used for many things.

Because of its durability and beauty, many people today use cedar in their cedar garden furniture. Cedar furniture is beautiful and durable, and for these same reasons, many use the wood for inlaying of their patio and gardens. Many people are able to find items like serving trays and carts, and other accessories that are made from cedar as well with the stores Wal-Mart and Target being good places to find such items. For a reasonable price, you can purchase cedar garden furniture from Sears, J.C. Pennies, and other department stores. For those that prefer to do their shopping online, you can purchase The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company’s many beautiful furniture items. Unlike many traditional stores, The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company offers you the ability to make custom furniture requests.

There are many places that you can buy you garden furniture from such as Homebase garden furniture online and Ikea garden furniture. However, many people prefer to go to a cedar garden furniture expert, such as The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company, which sells many outdoor furniture accessories. The beautiful cedar garden furniture that this company produces is a line they are very proud of. Unlike some bulk manufacturers, this company finely tunes and manufactures all their items.

Guidance Regarding Your Gardening

By admin On July 15, 2008 No Comments

When you want to start a garden, you would need some guidance. I am sharing some tips with you, which have worked for me wonderfully. The local nursery is a great source for help and guidance regarding your gardening. There is of course the internet, gardening clubs, books and magazines on the subject. What is the top information that you need to know: amount of sunlight the plot is likely to have, tips on fertilizers, mulch and soil management. Then the question of the types of tools you need, along with the kind of tiller and the type of watering system which would be required.

Gardening Tip #1: If you write down what you plan to do with your garden you can save a lot of time. Keep the plan in front and call a friend to discuss the whole matter. A second opinion helps. The important points to consider is how the garden would look, how far is the hose and sprinklers, etc. There could be other points of consideration also.

Gardening Tip #2: The garden is a success if the soil is prepared well. Different types of plants prefer different types of soil so make sure you take that into consideration. For the natural flavor to remain in your food, use organic fertilizers in your vegetable or herb garden. Wooden chip mulch or any good compost would be a better choice than ordinary fertilizer.

Having a backyard compost heap is not really impossible, especially when you consider its returns. Fresh home brew compost is filled with essential nutrients for our herb and vegetable garden, but after all it may not be a very realistic idea. Though mulch is a good alternative to home compost mixture, ensure that you use redwood or pine as it breaks faster. Whether you use mulch, compost or fertilizer, you must mix them well.

Gardening Tip #3: You might like to make last minute changes to the appearance of your garden. to be able to do this, do not plant the plants soon after the soil is ready. Just lay them out ion top of the soil and check whether you like what you see. According to some guides, plants with like characteristics should be planted together. For example, any plant with a large girth should be clubbed with other plants with similar characteristics. All tall plants at the back and shorter plants in the front make a lot of sense.

Gardening Tip #4: Your garden needs watering regularly. Never forget this. If your house is very big, then watering a garden can be very hard work. I advise using an automatic watering system because that almost makes gardens grow themselves. Starting from a big sprinkling system to a timer tied to a hose – the automatic watering system has it all. Gardening can be one of the most rewarding experiences – providing you with shade, beauty and at times food!
