Guidance Regarding Your Gardening

By admin On July 15, 2008 Under Gardening Advice

When you want to start a garden, you would need some guidance. I am sharing some tips with you, which have worked for me wonderfully. The local nursery is a great source for help and guidance regarding your gardening. There is of course the internet, gardening clubs, books and magazines on the subject. What is the top information that you need to know: amount of sunlight the plot is likely to have, tips on fertilizers, mulch and soil management. Then the question of the types of tools you need, along with the kind of tiller and the type of watering system which would be required.

Gardening Tip #1: If you write down what you plan to do with your garden you can save a lot of time. Keep the plan in front and call a friend to discuss the whole matter. A second opinion helps. The important points to consider is how the garden would look, how far is the hose and sprinklers, etc. There could be other points of consideration also.

Gardening Tip #2: The garden is a success if the soil is prepared well. Different types of plants prefer different types of soil so make sure you take that into consideration. For the natural flavor to remain in your food, use organic fertilizers in your vegetable or herb garden. Wooden chip mulch or any good compost would be a better choice than ordinary fertilizer.

Having a backyard compost heap is not really impossible, especially when you consider its returns. Fresh home brew compost is filled with essential nutrients for our herb and vegetable garden, but after all it may not be a very realistic idea. Though mulch is a good alternative to home compost mixture, ensure that you use redwood or pine as it breaks faster. Whether you use mulch, compost or fertilizer, you must mix them well.

Gardening Tip #3: You might like to make last minute changes to the appearance of your garden. to be able to do this, do not plant the plants soon after the soil is ready. Just lay them out ion top of the soil and check whether you like what you see. According to some guides, plants with like characteristics should be planted together. For example, any plant with a large girth should be clubbed with other plants with similar characteristics. All tall plants at the back and shorter plants in the front make a lot of sense.

Gardening Tip #4: Your garden needs watering regularly. Never forget this. If your house is very big, then watering a garden can be very hard work. I advise using an automatic watering system because that almost makes gardens grow themselves. Starting from a big sprinkling system to a timer tied to a hose – the automatic watering system has it all. Gardening can be one of the most rewarding experiences – providing you with shade, beauty and at times food!
